Pharmacy technicians are very important as their roles in the medical field. There are a lot of different medications to use in various situations as well as different medical devices, also to be applied whenever they are needed for patients.
The role of pharmacy technicians is simple to say but difficult to handle properly: they are responsible to properly hand out all medications as well as devices, so that all patients are clearly told and instructed on the usage of these healthcare solutions. There is also some work related to the computer, as you need to keep a history of the indications for the patients and sometimes maintain stock records as well, on the computer.
The certifications that are required for all technicians aren’t necessarily generalized across the United States. Every state handles its pharmacy technicians differently, thus laws regulating their work are different. Pharmacy technicians are one of the few medical professions that can be learned online. With most of the healthcare system’s jobs, you can’t simply go around and become a professional by following courses online and successfully completing any exam online. Of course, every pharmacy tech must have finished high school, but that is probably a very common requirement, regardless of the job being in the medical field or any other field.
Since pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, they need to report everything to the supervisor on a regular basis.
Pharmacy technician salary depends on numerous factors. First of all, as one, you can’t earn as much as pharmacists would. This happens because pharmacy technicians don’t perform their regular, daily duties independently, they are required to be supervised by pharmacists or other licensed professionals qualified to supervise pharmacy technicians.
Considering the statistics presented in 2013 so far, pharmacy tech salaries generally range around $30,000 – $31,000 per year. Although this is the average salary of these professionals across the United States, it does not mean that there aren’t lower or higher pharmacy technician salaries.

If you feel like you would earn more as a pharmacy technician, there are a couple of tricks that could help you. To begin with, you could target becoming an outpatient pharmacy tech, since outpatient salaries are $40.000 per year on the average, higher than the “simple” salaries if we could name them this way. Or, as an alternative, the salaries are slightly higher if you are a bilingual pharmacy technician in states where bilingual professionals are in need.
Another trick to increase your pharmacy technician salaries is choosing a location. If you are lucky enough to have relatives, friends or any other type of help in wealthier states in the US, you could choose to become a pharmacy technician in New York or some other areas which are well-known to pay higher salaries.
However, if you are required to stay at motels or rent a flat, then it’s not such a great idea to move to another state, since the salary difference might not cover the expenses associated with the simple fact that you are staying there.
